York Greenways has submitted a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project to record and make available archive material about the history of the York to Selby cycle path. Originally part of the London to Edinburgh main line it was closed due to the opening of the Selby Coalfield. It also crosses the River Ouse, once a thriving commercial outlet to the sea.
Archive material is located in a number of different locations and the project aims to make access to this material easier through a website, mobile exhibition and information boards along the path.
If you have an interesting story to tell about the railway line, the coalfield, the river or the creation of the cycle path – or just interested – contact Peter Huxford at email@example.com
